Netflix dropped the trailer of Anurag Basu’s hotly-anticipated anthology Ludo today. Starring a stacked ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapur, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh and more, the film is packed with promising performances to look forward to.
Ludo‘s trailer, like the game, begins with the roll of a dice. In quick scene cuts, we see Aditya Roy Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Bachchan and Rohit Saraf occupying frames tinted with Ludo house colours followed by heavy gunfire and explosions. The film seems to follow four different groups of people whose lives are about to get entangled in a bunch of comedic twists. We see Abhishek playing a rookie kidnapper, Pankaj Tripathi doing what he does best – firing guns and working his signature humouristic charm, Rajkummar has some hilarious filmy moments before and after he’s tasked with a jailbreak and Aditya who can be seen faking it (and failing) as a doctor in front of Sanya Malhotra’s character. The stories are divided into distinct colour palettes in keeping with the theme of the film which in my opinion is about to do wonders for the cinematography. As the trailer comes to a close it teases some more, no points for guessing, gunfire and explosions.
The last time Anurag Basu directed an anthology it was Life in a… Metro which was a massive success. Ludo looks like it’s on its way to becoming another crowd-pleaser. Crime thrillers are never not an attraction especially if you place so many bankable performers in it. Talking about the film which is his first outing on Netflix, Basu said, “Ludo is unlike any film I’ve made before. It’s been an adventure. It was fantastic working with such a talented ensemble – where each actor brought a unique vision and craft. Pritam, one of my closest collaborators, who I have worked with on so many projects, worked closely with me to bring this film to life and I am so grateful to him. T Series have been fantastic partners through this process and I’m excited that Ludo is getting a global audience with Netflix and hope that they enjoy this Diwali entertainer with their families.”
Ludo releases on Netflix on November 12, 2020.
